The Burnett Family

Burnett FamilyBen, Denice & LaneDr. Benjamin C. Burnett assumed duties as superintendent of the Lamar County School District on January 8, 2008. Dr. Burnett is forty-six years old and has been married to his wife, Denice, for twenty years.  They have one son, Lane, who is twelve years old. Denice Burnett is assistant special education director for the Lamar County School District and Lane is a student at Oak Grove Middle School.  Ben was formerly principal at Oak Grove Middle School as well as being an adjunct professor for graduate courses at both USM and William Carey University.   He has twenty-four years of experience in the education field with twenty-one of those years with Lamar County Schools.  He served as an administrator for ten years.  Dr. Burnett has been a resident of Lamar County for many years, attending Purvis Elementary School and graduating from Oak Grove High School in 1982.  He attended the University of Southern Mississippi and received his Bachelor's Degree in 1986, a Master's Degree in 1989, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Administration in 2002.  Ben is deeply involved in Lamar County and the local area being an active member in the Heritage United Methodist Church, a pack leader for cub scouts, as well as many other Christian and family organizations in the local area, state and nationwide.
